Sinbad Valley

This is a tremendously significant project. Sinbad Gully is located under the iconic Mitre Peak in Milford Sound, and was once alive with many endangered native birds, lizards and insects, and was the last known mainland habitat of the kakapo. The high vertical valley walls form a natural barrier that limits the invasion of introduced predators. Conversationalists have identified this valley as a natural ‘island’ which makes the valley very suitable for concentrated pest control.

Several new species of lizards have recently been discovered including the “Sinbad” and the “Mahogany” skinks and a “Cascade” gecko.

The potential outcomes of this project are extremely exciting, with the protection of species such as rock wren, kea, whio and even a large weta, which still exist thanks to the terrain they live in.

Directed Funding

What do we mean by directed funding?  Simply put if you are interested in funding a particular project, the Trust will assist in seeing it happen. Either you know of a project that requires funding, or have a particular interest in a certain area or threatened species, the Trust can help make this happen. Alternatively, you may be an organization who can see the many benefits of supporting conservation projects and wish to become involved.

We do of course accept general donations to the Trust and these are of vital importance too. Many Trust funded projects fall under our care and need on-going intervention and funding.

What benefits are there for you?

Apart from the knowledge that you are helping to conserve significant natural treasures or taonga, there are many. The most obvious benefit is the 100% tax deductibility (donation information from KPMG). For businesses operating under Qualmark, the Fiordland Conservation Trust would be an ideal recipient for the “contributing to conservation” aspect of their requirements. Other benefits can be tailored to you or your organization depending on the type of project and how your business operates. Talk to the Trust Manager now and let us find a project that suits your requirements.
